"NETS ARE THE MAIN TOOLS USED BY FISHERMEN TO EARN A LIVING, BUT FISHING NETS WASTE IS A GENUINE PROBLEM HERE IN CORNWALL DUE TO THE LACK OF A PROPER RECYCLING INFRASTRUCTURE. AROUND THE WORLD, MOST OF THE FISHING NETS WERE BURNED, PUT IN LANDFILL, OR WORST OF ALL, DUMPED INTO THE SEA, CAUSING MASSIVE ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS." — IAN FALCONER, FOUNDER OF FISHY FILAMENTS LTD.

According to a report by UNFAO, the majority of large plastic pollution in the oceans comes from lost and abandoned fishing gear that is destructive to marine life.

Every year, more than 640,000 tonnes of commercial fishing nets, pots, and traps are abandoned and discarded in the sea, the equivalent of 55,000 double-decker buses.

Philips MyCreation Coastal breeze Edition are now created using 100% traceable fishnets thanks to an innovative relationship with Fishy Filaments from Cornwall, United Kingdom.

These fishnets, which were previously discarded by fishermen, will be used to make new products that are more sustainable. This is a first for Signify and the lighting industry as a whole.

Wastes become wonders thanks to 3D printing technology.

The whole process involves sorting, cleaning, and recycling collected nets into 100% recycled filaments. This raw material is then melted and used to create all of the materials used to print our Coastal Breeze series lamps.

Although the process is more complicated than that of plastic-made lamps on the market, it is a significant step toward saving the environment while also creating something absolutely gorgeous to add to our decors.

It is the market's only lamp built of repurposed fishing nets. This Fishnet recycling innovation not only allows consumers to contribute to ocean cleanup, but it also aids fishing communities in better waste management using their old fishnets.

"EVERY YEAR, 200,000 TONNES OF NEW FISHNETS ARE MADE, AND THEY TAKE MORE THAN 150 YEARS TO BREAK DOWN. WE COULD DEFINITELY REMOVE A NATION-SCALE AMOUNT OF EMISSIONS FROM THE CLIMATE EMERGENCY IF WE START RECYCLING THEM NOW."

Cleaning the ocean, One lamp at a time.

This unique collection, made from fishing nets obtained directly from the ocean, allows you to make a responsible choice without sacrificing beauty. These lamps feature a coastal inspired finish that comes to life in textures and hues that bring the shore to your house, honouring the intended origin of the source material as well as the beautiful places it's been.
